Restoring attachments back to excellent working condition with Shotblasting.

Shotblasting is a crucial part of reconditioning used forklift attachments, restoring them to excellent working condition. At Abbey, our engineers use shotblasting to remove rust, old paint, mill scale, and surface contaminants, preparing attachments for thorough inspection, repair, and recoating. The process ensures attachments not only look like new but also perform reliably in demanding operational environments.

Shotblasting works by propelling small steel abrasive particles at high velocity onto the attachment’s surface. This removes corrosion, coatings, and surface debris while leaving a uniform, textured finish. The repeated impact of the steel shot also strengthens the metal by creating a compressive layer, improving fatigue resistance and extending the overall lifespan of the attachment.

Deep cleaning and strengthening.

Shotblasting exposes the bare metal and strengthens it by creating a compressive surface layer. This enhances durability, allowing attachments to withstand heavy lifting and repeated cycles without compromising structural integrity.

In 2024, Abbey upgraded its capabilities with a new acoustic sandblasting facility from Hodge Clemco. The facility features advanced ventilation and dust extraction, improving air quality, while superior sound insulation reduces noise levels. Ergonomic and safety-focused design ensures a comfortable, controlled workspace, allowing our engineers to deliver high-quality, reconditioned attachments that meet the highest standards of performance, reliability, and safety.

Corrosion Protection

By stripping away rust and surface contaminants, shotblasting prevents corrosion from spreading. Clean, prepared surfaces allow protective coatings to adhere effectively, helping attachments resist environmental damage and remain operational for longer.

Enhanced Surface Preparation

The textured finish created by shotblasting ensures paints and coatings bond securely. This improves the longevity and performance of protective layers, keeping attachments in top condition through repeated use.

Reduced Wear and Tear

Removing embedded debris, old coatings, and imperfections reduces friction and operational wear on moving parts. Attachments remain precise, reliable, and less prone to damage during day-to-day handling tasks.
