Consent Valve

A Consent Valve is a safety feature designed to prevent the accidental operation of forklift attachments. It ensures that certain hydraulic functions, such as opening or releasing a load, can only be carried out when the operator performs an additional, deliberate action. This added layer of control helps reduce the risk of unintended movements that could lead to dropped loads, damage, or injury.

  • Prevents accidental attachment operation Ensures loads cannot be released without deliberate operator input
  • Improves operator control Requires a secondary action, such as a switch or pedal, for safer handling
  • Reduces risk of dropped loads Helps protect goods, equipment, and personnel
  • Works with existing hydraulic systems Easily integrated without major modifications
  • Supports safer working environments Encourages consistent and controlled attachment use

Equipment Description.

In day to day operations, forklift attachments are used frequently and often in busy environments. A consent valve introduces a simple but effective safeguard by requiring the operator to activate a secondary control, typically a switch or pedal, while using the attachment. This ensures that every movement is intentional, improving safety without slowing down normal handling tasks.

By reducing the chance of accidental activation, a consent valve supports safer working practices across a wide range of applications. It is particularly useful when handling valuable, fragile, or hazardous loads where an unexpected release could have serious consequences. The system works alongside the forklift’s existing hydraulics, making it a practical upgrade that enhances control without adding unnecessary complexity.

Abbey has also developed tailored consent valve solutions to meet specific customer requirements. In one application, a consent valve was integrated into the forklift’s hydraulic system alongside a foot pedal control. This allowed the attachment to close as normal, but prevented the load from being released unless the operator actively pressed the foot pedal. This additional step ensured that loads could not be dropped accidentally, providing a higher level of safety in a critical handling operation.

A Consent Valve provides a simple and effective way to improve forklift safety, helping operators maintain control and reduce risk during everyday material handling tasks.
