Static Door System

The Static Door System is a smart warehouse safety solution designed to protect pedestrians at busy doorways and crossing points. Developed entirely by Abbey, this system is an adaptation of Safety Shield, widely recognised as the most advanced AI pedestrian detection system on the market.

  • Developed entirely by Abbey as an innovative adaptation of Safety Shield.
  • Designed specifically for warehouse doorways to alert forklift operators when pedestrians enter the danger zone.
  • Integrated safety lights and configurable alerts to clearly warn operators and pedestrians.
  • 99.6% pedestrian detection accuracy using advanced AI recognition.
  • Customisable detection zones to suit different warehouse layouts and traffic patterns.

Equipment Description.

Safety Shield is typically installed on forklifts to detect pedestrians around moving vehicles. Abbey has adapted this technology for use at warehouse doorways, creating a static safety system that alerts forklift operators as soon as a pedestrian enters the bespoke danger zone surrounding a doorway. This provides an early warning at key crossing points where pedestrian walkways and forklift traffic often intersect.

The system uses advanced AI walkway recognition to accurately detect pedestrians, even when they are partially obscured, while ignoring other moving objects that could trigger unnecessary alerts. This ensures that only genuine pedestrian risks activate the system, helping maintain both safety and operational efficiency.

The Static Door System also includes integrated safety lights positioned around the doorway. When a pedestrian enters the detection zone, a red warning light signals forklift operators to stop. This helps maintain clear separation between pedestrian walkways and high traffic forklift areas.

Like the original Safety Shield system, the Static Door System also includes event recording, allowing incidents and activity to be captured and reviewed through the Safety Shield VUE Portal. This enables safety managers to review recorded footage, monitor activity, and gain valuable insights into warehouse safety performance.

The system was the idea of Chris Barnes, Abbey’s Technical Director. This demonstrates how Abbey continues to develop new safety solutions through innovation and collaboration.
